Every once in awhile, a song will strike a chord in me and I won’t be able to shake it. Lately, that song has been “Not Afraid” by Eminem. Now, obviously I don’t agree with everything he says or the language he uses to make his point, but there are little bits in this song that ring true for me. For instance, these lyrics:
And I just can’t keep living this way
So starting today, I’m breaking out of this cage
I’m standing up, Imma face my demons
I’m manning up, Imma hold my ground
I’ve had enough, now I’m so fed up
Time to put my life back together right now
I think this has been striking for me because of the series I am launching this weekend at Riv. We’ll be talking about sin, but not just any sin–we’re hitting on the sin that keeps hounding us and we think it’s OK.
Of course, I think his last line is missing a crucial component, but I wouldn’t want to spoil my message for this weekend…
